The cigarette beetle can be found world wide, wherever dried tobacco products or leaves are stored. They are light brown in color and have saw like antennae. The female lays on average 30-42 eggs within infested food source. They have 4-6 developmental changes from egg to adult. The lifespan of the cigarette beetle is normally 28 days.

The cigarette beetle is a pest of tobacco leaves and products, but is also a minor pest of oil-seeds, cereals, dried fruits, flour, pet foods dried spices, rice, grains, yeast, and most anything that you can find stored in a home pantry.

Transmitted Diseases

The cigarette beetle does not transmit any human diseases.

Habits

The cigarette beetle normally flies in the late afternoon and cloudy days. They are attracted to light, and may gain access to your structure by the presence of light. Once they have breached the interior, they normally seek a food source immediately.
